We’ve had another exciting week at Hervey Bay State High School for Week 7, Term 2. So many events on offer to engage our students. Earth Week was a major event this week. Our Sustainability Team, lead by Ms Welton, held activities during break times for students to raise awareness. Students were able to get involved in a number of activities, including – containers for change bottle bowling, painting of plant pots and nude food day. Our canteen ladies joined in the festivities by creating a special Earth Week menu as well. A huge thank you to the team for your organisation and providing some fun activities for our students this week.
Students in years 7 and 10 Core Science classes were able to enjoy an out of this world experience this week - The Starlab! Students have learnt about the lunar cycle and eclipses, as well as types of galaxies and the lifecycle of stars. This happened all whilst being immersed in vivid images inside a giant dome installed in our Creative Arts Complex – what an amazing opportunity! A huge thank you to our Science faculty team for your efforts.
On Monday, our Junior and Senior netball students participated in the Vicki Wilson Cup held in Bundaberg. Our players took to the court with enthusiasm and displayed some wonderful sportsmanship against the opposition. Well done to everyone who played and to our dedicated coaching staff.
After a delay due to COVID at the start of the year, our Year 7 cohort finally was able to view the Shake n Stir “Terrortorial” presentation on Wednesday morning. The theatre company also performed “Dirty Beasts” for the Year 8 cohort, and “Macbeth” for Year 12s. As always, the performances were of high quality, and enjoyed by our students.
On Wednesday evening the Maths and Science crew provided a superb afternoon of challenging activities for local Year 6 Students (hopefully our APEX year 7 2023 students!) This is the third year this event has run, and once again students and their families thoroughly enjoyed the evening. A huge thank you to all involved – it was a wonderful event!
Our Academy and APEX applications for all programs of excellence for Year 7, 2023 are due by Friday next week (10 June). If you know families or friends in local schools who are keen to apply, spread the word! Full details can be found on our FaceBook page.
Students and staff acknowledged Pride Day on Thursday. Pride Day allows us to be inclusive of everyone and their life decisions. Students were able to discuss the importance of youth mental health with representatives from Head Space, and also get involved in some arts and crafts activities. Thank you to Matt for coordinating these events.
Thursday was a very busy day, also with Pride Day, we had our Year 12 Aquatic Practices boating excursion, and over 30 students performing in Fanfare at Kawungan SS – congratulations to all involved!
