Leadership Program
Hervey Bay State High School has a dedicated Student Leadership group. All students are encouraged and welcome to come along to leadership meetings every week and participate as an active member of the leadership group. Students receive rewards for their participation in community events. There are 3 tiers to our Student Leadership Program—gold, silver and bronze. As the Student Leadership team works throughout the year, they are acknowledged for their efforts through the Leadership acknowledgement scheme.
Prospective students incoming to our school can also apply to our Global Leadership Academy to get a headstart into the leadership program. More information can be found via this link.
Program Structure
The Student Leadership Program focuses on building the skills and capabilities of our young leaders through weekly meetings where students will participate in workshops, project teams and reflections. In weeks 3 and 6 of every term, students participate in workshops run by staff and senior school leaders that build vital skills such as communication, time management, public speaking skills, event management, marketing and advertising, managing difficult conversations, working as a team and more! Students navigate these sessions through leadership journals which enable students to document and reflect on their growth as a leader. These skills are applied to term long projects that fall under four categories; Environment and Sustainability, Campus Culture, Student Wellbeing and Community connections.
