Week 5 has been a fabulous week at Hervey Bay State High School.
Our P&C Association meeting was held last week. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 5pm in the Main Administration Building. Our P&C Committee consists of:
• President: Matthew Martin
• Vice President: Rob Burke/ Natasha Entriken
• Secretary: Katie Clews
• Treasurer: Renei Lewis
Our committee would love to welcome new faces to our meetings, so please come along and have your say in the decision making of our school.
Hervey Bay State High School has been very fortunate in being selected as one of the 120 schools to receive a Dignity Vending Machine. This will provide students with free access to sanitary products, when needed at school. Our Dignity Vending Machine was placed into our school this week.
Our Year 7 and 9 students completed their final round of NAPLAN testing on Wednesday. Our online testing went very smoothly thanks to the efficient planning and preparation of Ms Thomas and Ms Brierley. Reports on individual students’ performances will be available to parents and carers later in the year.
Our PBL focus for the next fortnight is on Learning to Learn - Show Up and Shine. We are asking students to have regular attendance at school, be on time for lessons, and participate fully in curriculum tasks and activities - simple and easy!
At Hervey Bay State High School, we want all students to achieve their best at their ability level - because success looks different for everyone! Part of being successful is being organised. This includes having regular attendance at school, being on time and being prepared physically and mentally to learn.
This week discuss with your students the strategies and routines you use as an adult to be to events and work on time, and how you prepare for your day to have success. Help us to build young people with strength of character.
There have been a number of invitational letters sent home to students this week. Eligible students have already received invitational letters for:
• Junior/Middle Year Level camp letter- Students will be attending camp at Mapleton in week 10 of Term 2.
• Experience USC- This will be held on Tuesday 7th June at the Hervey Bay campus for Year 10 students. Eligible students who have attained high academic grades as well as demonstrated excellent effort and behaviour have received an invitational letter.
• Study Tour in Brisbane- This tour will provide students with an opportunity to explore universities as well as accommodation options. On the final day, students will attend The Tertiary Studies Expo. Invitational letters have been emailed to eligible students in Years 10-12.
This week we have been promoting our 7 Days of Excellence Programs. We are very proud of the APEX programs and Academies that we are able to provide students in their junior years, as they offer engaging and enriching experiences. We are so excited to be offering these programs again in 2023, giving students the opportunity to extend themselves academically, work with like-minded peers, use state-of-the-art facilities and be active members of the Hervey Bay State High School community. Students who are attending Hervey Bay State High School as part of the year seven cohort next year will have the opportunity to apply for these fantastic programs. Applications close on Friday the 10th of June.
Term 2 has continued to be an extremely busy time for our sporting students with a large number of students attending trials throughout the Term. The Broncos Challenge grand final games were held at Stafford Park on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, our U13 Boys did not make it to this level but had an enjoyable competition under the guidance of Mr Mulligan. Yesterday our U13 Girls were defeated in a close game while our U15 and Open teams had convincing wins.
Congratulations
to our U13 and U15 Girls who have now qualified to compete in the Karyn Murphy Cup. Thank you to our dedicated staff, Ms Heron, Ms O’Donnell and Simon for coaching and supporting our students throughout this lengthy competition.
Have a wonderful Show Holiday and weekend.
Regards,
Terri Weatherley
Head of Middle School
