Curriculum programs across Years 7 to 12 at Hervey Bay State High School rely on digital pedagogy. Our curriculum is designed for students to engage in authentic learning experiences (face to face and online) focusing on collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and embedding information and communication technologies across all subjects, including feedback and assessment.
With today's access to digital technologies, all students need to have a seamless movement between school and home. We encourage all students to have a personal laptop device to support their learning and this is a responsibility of families under the Student Resource Scheme (SRS) to provide.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a key capability of the Australian Curriculum. Students develop capability in using ICT for tasks associated with information access and management, information creation and presentation, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, creative expression and empirical reasoning - including conducting research, creating multimedia information products, analysing data, designing solutions to problems, controlling processes and devices, and supporting computation while working independently and in collaboration with others.
Two programs exist at Hervey Bay State High School to support digital teaching and learning:
- BYO - Available to all students
Compatible personal devices may be purchased by parents or carers from online or physical stores directly. The school does not sell BYO devices. BYO devices are brought to school by students for learning purposes, and are required to connect the school's Wi-Fi. Please refer to the "BYO Device Specifications" document under General Info above when choosing a device, and "Connect your BYO device" after the purchase to be carried out at home (Internet required). - Hire to Buy - Available to students from Years 7 to 10
These devices are available in limited supply from the school with multiple offerings available. The hire and school managed duration of a devices is 3 years, it is retained as school property for that period of time – with the student taking it home as their personal learning tool. After the final Hire to Buy payment has been processed, the device is released as property of the parent/carer, then it may be used as a BYO device thereafter by the student.
All relevant agreement forms and any other documentation required to be filled in and signed by parents/carers and students, must be returned with all requirements met for processing to commence.
BYO 3rd Party Purchasing Portals (not Hire to Buy)
