Welcome to our Week 7 Info Share-
Can you believe that we are already over half way into Term 1? Our staff and students have been actively learning and heavily involved in a number of activities throughout the Term.
Student Investiture- Our Student Investiture ceremony was held to celebrate the achievements of so many young leaders. Ninety Student Leaders and our 2023 School Captains received their badges in front of their families and special invited guests. Mayor George
Seymour and MP Adrian Tantari were in attendance for our ceremony. Mayor George Seymour personally congratulated each leader with a letter whilst Mr Tantari also gifted the school with new flags for the front of the school grounds. We also took the opportunity to congratulate our 2022 Senior Dux Matthew Lukacs, who was acknowledged and celebrated for his academic achievements in 2022.
NAPLAN News- A reminder to our Year 7 & 9 parents/carers and students - NAPLAN Online will take place in Weeks 8 & 9 of this term. Students have received a letter to take home on their year level assemblies - extra copies can be collected from Junior Student Services. The deadline for withdrawal requests (including a fully completed form) is tomorrow, Monday 6 March.

Year 12 Exam Block- This week some of our Year 12 students will be completing exams. The exam block will be held over a period of three days. Students who do not have an exam will attend their regular classes at school each day. Year 12 students will need to bring any equipment they may need to their exam. It is important to note that students must attend their Senior exams and cannot be absent (except under extreme, documented circumstances).
QParents Information- If you haven't already, be sure to sign up for the QParents App. Invites went out earlier this year and could be hiding in your junk emails. If you are unable to locate this email, please contact us at enquiry@herveybayshs.eq.edu.au and we can resend your invitation.
Year 7 House Cup Challenges- This year we have introduced a House Cup Challenge for our Year 7 students. Our students have had a number of opportunities to earn points for their House. In the classroom, students have been earning House points by following our three core expectations:
* Being Respectful
* Being Safe
* Being an Active Learner
Students have also participated in recess activities and Dodgeball has been very popular with our students. Last week our students participated in a Year 7 House Cup Mathematics competition. Students were able to work with a partner, or independently, to answer questions in a ‘Who Wants to be a House Cup Millionaire’? format. Students were awarded points for their correct answers which then contributed towards House points. We look forward to sharing further challenges with you in the near future.
D Block Refurbishment-Work has started on rejuvenating our last building, with classrooms in D Block currently under construction and getting a facelift. The old hopper and louver windows are being replaced, internal and external painting, new teaching walls installed in each of the classrooms, new lights, fans, carpet and furniture to create better learning spaces for our students. The area under and around the building is currently fenced off for student and staff safety. Work should be completed by the July break and the classrooms reopened for teaching and learning in term 3.
Clean Up Australia Day-Just recently, many of our students participated in Clean Up Australia Day. Thank you to all who helped clean up our school! Your efforts were greatly appreciated. Remember to reduce, reuse and recycle every day by using our yellow recycling bins at school. Three students were awarded with sustainable products for their efforts in cleaning the school and raising awareness for Containers for Change. Well done ladies!
Shave for a Cure- Shave for a Cure is just over a week away and we have a number of staff and students raising money for the worthy cause. Please check out our promotional posts and click on the link to donate.
Girl’s Rugby League Academy Day- How exciting was our Rugby League Academy Day? We loved hosting our Primary School feeder schoolgirls for the day. Danny Blair, Redcliffe Dolphins Game Development Officer, was on hand to demonstrate technique and skills through fun and engaging drills. The girls thoroughly enjoyed their on-field and classroom sessions. We look forward to our second Academy day in Term 2 on May 18.
