Good morning and welcome back to all students, families and staff
Today we start another new year and I am looking forward to meeting our 255 new year 7 students who are joining our Hervey Bay State High School community for the first time. A warm welcome to all their families. This is a big day and milestone for them as they enter High school and their next six years of secondary education. Our week long orientation program is well planned to assist our new ‘high-schoolers’ to get to know each other and gain an understanding of our school and expectations. Tomorrow, the rest of the student body will join us with our enrolment currently over 1350 students. This year, we return to a more traditional timetable for our students, so please check the new times and timetables of your student so you are aware of their start and finish times.
This is also an exciting year for us as we welcome 21 new staff to the school. For the first time in more than three years we start with a full cohort of staff which will ensure that your student will have a consistent and specialist teacher in front of them in every classroom. I welcome these new members to our community and welcome all 195 staff back to another school year.
Last year we had a most successful academic year with 90.4% of students achieving an A, B or C achievement in their studies and 100% of our year 12 students received their Queensland Certificate of Education or Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement. Our English and Mathematics achievement outcomes for the year exceeded like schools and state targets with 90% and 89% of students receiving an A, B or C achievement respectfully. Our focus remains on every student realising their potential and achieving a C standard of achievement or better.
On behalf of all my staff, we are looking forward to working with you and your family to ensure another successful academic year for our students.
