At Hervey Bay State High School, we take pride in providing students enriching and engaging leadership opportunities. Our leadership program begins in year 7, providing students experiences that will assist them throughout their schooling and beyond. Our goal is to provide a solid educational program in an effort to develop the future leaders of the world.
Program Details
The Global Leadership Academy provides students with a passion for collaboration, community and making an impact valuable experiences both in and out of the classroom.
This program, provided to year 7 students for one semester, is a non-assessable enrichment program that has been guided by the Leaders of Evolution program, Young Leaders in Schools – Advanced e-learning course. The Advanced course challenges students to perform as leaders and apply their knowledge for the betterment of the school community.
Key Academy Opportunities
Students in our Global Leadership Academy have many opportunities to work with other leaders in the school and the community. In this program, student growth is mapped through the Success Criteria Matrix, using the 4Cs: Competence, Confidence, Character and Connectedness.
Learning experiences that promote teamwork, developing self-awareness, communication and starting a mentor relationship, and active participation in Hervey Bay State High School's News Channel, The Pelican Post are just some of the learning experiences provided.
Those in the Global Leadership Academy are also provided opportunities to work with the school leadership body. Students in this school-wide program are also provided with opportunities to:
- Attend weekly leadership meetings
- Promote school events and a positive school culture
- Assist with school events, excursions and functions
- Participate in a Global Leadership dinner
- Work with aspiring leaders in our local primary schools

The Hervey Bay State High School Global Leadership Academy aims to develop students as life-long learners, so that they become:

- Independent learners
- Goal-orientated
These skills are fundamental attributes that can be used in every classroom, and beyond.
