The Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) Academy is designed to deepen student knowledge and understanding of performance, while developing essential life skills including communication, collaboration and creativity. Participating students engage in enriching and collaborative experiences both in and out of the classroom.
The Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) Academy is designed to:
- Develop and extend students in the areas of dance, drama and music (vocals)
- Provide students with authentic opportunities of engagement and extension through quality Arts education experiences.
Program Details
The Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) Academy is available to Year 7 students who wish to engage in rich and rewarding experiences in dance, drama and music (vocals). This is an audition-based program designed for students who demonstrate potential in dance and drama, and have a passion to grow as artists.
Students in the Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) Academy will engage with Hervey Bay State High School's specialist Performing Arts teachers, alongside practitioners working within the Arts industry, to strengthen their theoretical knowledge and practical skills and techniques in the discipline areas of Dance and Drama.
Key Learning Experiences
The Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) Academy provides a positive learning environment for students to broaden and develop their performance skills beyond the expectations of the Australian Curriculum.
Students will be provided with many opportunities to develop their skills in performance, and are invited to join the school's Performance Team. A range of performance opportunities are available to those students who are a part of the Performing Arts Academy, including:
- Hervey Bay State High School Arts Showcase
- Dance Night
- School Musicals
- Dance Eisteddfods and other competitions
Future Pathways
Enrolment in the Performing Arts (Dance and Drama) Academy gives students the foundations to be successful in future arts subjects, including Dance and Drama. It provides numerous fantastic opportunities for students who are passionate about the Arts and looking for opportunities to extend their skills and techniques in preparation for a career in the Performing Arts industry.
