Schools in rain affected areas closed today will also close
tomorrow (Friday 31 March 2017).
This includes all schools in the Metropolitan, North Coast and
South-East education regions.
There are also a number of other schools closed around Queensland
including those impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie. Further schools may
close in the interests of student safety.
Parents should act in the interest of their children’s safety.
For information about school closures, parents should continue to
check their local school website/social media and refer to the Department’s
School Closures website at http://closures.det.qld.gov.au/ for the most up-to-date information about the status of schools in
This website is being updated progressively.
The decision to close is being made in the interests of safety.
The decision follows advice that widespread severe weather
warnings – including significant rainfall, gale force winds, thunderstorms and
large scale flooding – are now in place across large tracts of central,
southern and south-east Queensland.
The effects of former Tropical Cyclone Debbie are far-reaching,
with severe weather and flood watch warnings now current for significant parts
of the watch zone.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued top priority warnings to
inland and coastal communities for widespread heavy rainfall, gale-strength
winds and riverine and flash flooding.
People are urged to tune into their local ABC radio – the official
emergency broadcaster - for weather and road updates.
They should regularly monitor the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM)
website www.bom.gov.au for wind,
rainfall and flood updates.
We would like to reassure all of our affected school communities
that our thoughts are with them during this difficult time. The safety of all
of our staff, our students and their families will always be our highest
