Hervey Bay State High School in conjunction with Urangan State High School share a school-based police officer (SBPO).

Participation by a SBPO in the education of students is an integral part of the current approach to police emphasis on community involvement and on preventative approaches to crime. This practice has the benefit of helping to provide a safe and supportive learning environmen for all students.

The SBPO is appointed to a school to assist that school community and police in:

• Promoting positive relationships between the school community and police;
• Contributing to an understanding of the law/legal process and procedures
• Attending to police related matters within the school community, where appropriate.
