LEARNING SUPPORT
 


Hervey Bay State High has a long established learning support program operating within the school and is committed to providing educational services to the needs of students with learning difficulties.

The school has a co-ordinated approach to provide educational opportunities appropriate to the needs of all students.

The school assists students who have learning difficulties/disabilities and help to develop competencies for students in the areas of literacy, numeracy and learning how to learn.

The many diverse programs that are available include:

  • A range of curriculum and program options such as - hands on agricultural/horticultural and engineering - hospitality , coffee service - learning support time for homework and assignments.
  • Teacher/teacher aide support in identified classes
  • Special considerations for assessment to facilitate the needs of students with learning difficulties.
  • Use of inclusive curriculum practices to ensure a diverse range of activities.
  • Specialising in small classes with English/maths, with support staff in response to students identified learning needs.
  • Elective time for homework and assignments.
  • Students identified with literacy/reading difficulties may be able to access reading programs.
  • Use of volunteer tutors from the local communit who offer their assistance on a one to one basis for identified students.
