SITE - STUDENT INDUSTRY TRAINING EXPERIENCE

Hervey Bay Student Industry Training Experience (S.I.T.E.) provides Hervey Bay High School students with work placements (work experience), and employment information which includes School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships. Our aim is to establish and maintain positive working relationships between schools and employers that enhance opportunities for school leavers.Workplace Learning ProgramAllows students the opportunity to participate in structured vocational placements and to:

• Gain industry relevant skills
• Gain knowledge of employer expectations
• Apply knowledge they learn in the classroom to the workplace situation
• Make contacts that can lead to employment
• Gain credit towards current vocational studies, further training, employment, traineeships and apprenticeships

Students are covered by Workcover through Education Queensland School-Based Apprenticeship Traineeship ProgramAllows students to:

• Begin a paid traineeship or apprenticeship while completing Year 11 or 12.
• Gain a head start in their career while continuing at School
• Benefit from ongoing monitoring and support
• Graduate with senior certificate AND vocational qualifications (complete or partial)
• Graduate with industry relevant skills and experience

The benefits to you our local employers is:

• Assisting local high school students with their “school-to-work” transition
• As a community representative you will develop a workplace learning partnership that gives students the opportunity to develop academic and vocational competencies
• Employers are entitled to receive government incentives that can cover more than six months wages (student working one day per week).
• The hours the student is required to work are negotiated between all parties (ie student, parents, S.I.T.E Coordinator, RTO and NAC).
• The training (course modules and competencies) can be tailored to suit both the employer and student.  (This would need to be discussed with the RTO prior to listing a School Based Traineeship).
